Gastrointestinal disorders – discover underlying food trigger

Bloating, diarrhea, heartburn, reflux, constipation, nausea

Many people search for a discrete solution of these well-known symptoms … In addition to the unpleasant social side effects it is by frequent occurrence suggested to look for solution to prevent chronic gastrointestinal irritation.

IBS (Colon irritabile), stomac discomfort

Do you have a constant feeling of fullness and pressure in the upper abdomen? Other signs of stomac discomfort can include nausea (rarely vomiting), flatulence, heartburn or upper abdominal pain.

Do you have abdominal pain that occurs at intervals in different degrees and localization? It can come with irritable bowel to switch between constipation and diarrhea, often. Combined with other symptoms such as abdominal pain, migraine, menstrual disorders or severe palpitations

The medical diagnosis confirmed that the blood levels of liver and pancreas and inflammatory parameters are within normal limits. The stool samples, stomach and colonoscopy show no abnormal findings. The medical diagnosis is irritable bowel syndrome. This means that the disease is due to so-called functional symptoms returned, for which there is no prescribed medical treatment.

Celiac disease vs Gluten intolerance

The U.S. researcher Dr. Alessio Fasano of the University of Maryland Center for Celiac Research found that in celiac disease and gluten intolerance two completely different immune activation pathways underlie. While in celiac disease corresponds the specific immune system the gluten intolerance appears to be nonspecific!

In Celiac disease it was believed that it was an inherited gluten intolerance or enzyme deficiency. The person has to eliminate grains (e.g. wheat, barley, spelt etc.) for the whole life. Symptoms are typically an exuberant and bold shiny sticky stool, pain in the abdomen and diarrhea.

On the other hand a nonspecific gluten intolerance is not genetic or life long lasting! Very often gluten-sensitive people can tolerate again gluten products after an elimination period. In one study, Fasano et al demonstrated in 2011 that gluten intolerance is mediated by the innate immune system. It may be a precursor to celiac disease. It is known that the gliadin in gluten can cause an increased expression of zonulin. Zonulin is a protein that regulates or increases the permeability of the intestine by opening the “contact zones” (tight junctions) between the intestinal cells. The gliadin of the grain comes thus increasingly into contact with the immune cells of the intestine and reacts locally. The beginning of the reaction takes usually one to two days but can last for several days.

The non-specific response in gluten intolerance may manifest in the gastro-intestinal tract, but also through the skin, weight gain, Diabetes, headache, joint pain, respiratory symptoms and others.

The ALCAT Test™ discovers hidden gluten intolerance including gliadin and all common grains. Furthermore to complete this food group it might be supportive to include the gluten-free „substitute-grains“, such as quinoa, buckwheat, millet or Amaranth into your ALCAT Test program.

ALCAT Program – that makes sense!

New studies show that food ingredients such as a protein or fatty acid can interact with the intestinal wall (Dr. Alessio Fasano et al, 2011). As a result the space between the intestinal wall can open so that the natural gut barrier doesn’t offer any more optimal protection (also referred to as “leaky gut”).

This condition might last until the food triggers will be eliminated from the diet for a certain period: More white blood cells interact with the gut contents, especially granulocytes may lead to local inflammation, swelling, or irritation in the intestines. Even larger sections of the intestine can be affected!

The ALCAT program may help with those symptoms: Test components that show a positive reaction will be eliminated from the diet for a period of 3-6 months.

Thus, the body’s immune system can relax during this time and of course strengthen.

Validation studies, as shown below, demonstrate that the decay of symptoms correlates very well with the elimination diet and diet change according to the ALCAT results. It is assumed that the ALCAT program helps to resolve the inflammation in the stomach and intestines.

Example II, Metabolic PLUS protocol (270/220 agents)

The metabolic upgrade is recommended especially for gastrointestinal disorders or weight loss:

  • 200/150 ALCAT 200 or ALCAT 150
  • 50 Chem:20 preservatives/colorings, 10 environmental chemicals, 20 pharmaceutica substances
  • 20 Myk:20 molds

Effectiveness and validation of the ALCAT Test ™ (selection)

Beginning in 1988 and carrying through to the present several clinical studies have been performed demonstrating the effectiveness of the ALCAT Test. Also *double-blind studies infodouble-blind studiesTo obtain an unbiased outcome the study must be carried out in double blind fashion wherein neither the doctor (investigator) nor test subject knows whether the food they are re-introducing has been indicated by the blood test as being either positive or negative. The test results are evaluated to see if they correlate with this, the, “gold standard” - a double blind oral challenge. This is a rigorous and time consuming protocol that yields an objective evaluation of both the sensitivity and the specificity of the test.
A valid test for food intolerance must measure the direct effect of food substances on precisely those cells of the immune system which are responsible for the biological effector function (chronic inflammation). If the test results are valid there should be in a concordance with symptoms (e.g., gastrointestinal complaints), and be demonstrable by double blind oral exposure.
for evaluation of the accuracy of a blood test for food intolerance were carried out to see how well the test results correlate with actually eating the food.

Why is that important?

This is important because you want the test to correctly identify reaction provoking substances; but, you also do not want the test to show false positives. The first parameter is called, “sensitivity”. The second is called, “specificity”. A false positive would cause you to needlessly eliminate a safe food. Why go through the trouble and deprivation?

Scientists have shown that in patients with irritable bowel syndrome, atopic eczema, allergic rhinitis or migraine the ALCAT Test™ can detect those foods that cause the above symptoms. The ALCAT Test™ has shown an impressive consistency in the double-blind study of 83.4% for foods. With standardized non biological substances, the accuracy is as high as 92%.

Gastrointestinal, skin & weight loss

1. In a randomized controlled weight loss trial of the Baylor Medical College, USA in 1996, the results showed that the 98% (49 out of 50) of the subjects who followed the ALCAT protocol experienced improvement for weight reduction and/or body composition. The control group showed only modest success of these parameters, and these results were statistically significant. (Kaats GR. Et al, 1996).

2. The effect of the ALCAT Test™ diet for food intolerance in patients with obesity (Akmal M. et al, 2009): The diet based on the ALCAT Test™ resulted in significant weight reduction, percentage of body fat and body mass index. During the 12 week ALCAT diet also other symptoms, such as physical performance, bloating, digestive problems, and headaches, improved.

Important notes - what does ALCAT not test for?

There is a clear distinction between the ALCAT test and other methods. Nevertheless, it is sometimes confusing.

Note: The ALCAT Test™ is not a food allergy test (Type I (IgE)! Allergy tests are measuring reactions of the specific immune system while the ALCAT TEST ™ captures predominantly cellular responses of the innate immune system.

  • The ALCAT Test™ is not a provocation test to determine a fructose intolerance, histamine intolerance or lactose intolerance.
  • It would be incorrect to confuse the ALCAT Test ™ with the cytotoxic test, a microscopic examination of white blood cells.
  • The ALCAT Test™ is not a test method to determine enzymatic defects, per se
  • The ALCAT TEST™ is not kinesiology or a hair analysis to determine food intolerance.

The ALCAT test is a validated method for identification of foods and other substances that trigger inflammation.
