Healthy weight loss – Yes you can!

For many people it is challenging to reach and maintain ideal weight. One cause why you might not be able to lose weight might be silent inflammation. Weight tables, after which the ideal weight is measured by size and age, can be frustrating. The same is true for those who calculate their BMI to avoid potential health risks caused by obesity. The so-called “body mass index” is based only on the size in relation to weight, but does not consider the “body composition”.

What causes „the over-weight”?

How much does the lean, fat-free body part weigh, and how much does the fat? A person can be overweight without a high body fat percentage. The over-weight may come from muscle mass. When it is placed in relation to the fat percentage, muscle mass is more dense and therefore weighs more. A person who is not “fat-overweight” is not under the same disease risks, such as a “fat-overweight”. On the other hand, people may have a too high fat content but “ideal weight” according to the BMI. This condition is called normal weight obesity. Consequently, the risk of disease and inflammation is higher, even though they fall within the ideal weight category.

Thus the fat proportion plays the biggest health role, regardless of the weight. Too much muscle mass pose no health risks e.g. the metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, type II diabetes, cardio-vascular diseases, certain cancers and other disorders that may be a long term effect the “fat overweight”. In contrast to the widespread opinion that fat is stored in the form of a wobbly mass as excess calories, it is metabolically active tissue. Leptins are hormones which are produced in fat cells. They send signals to the brain that you are not longer hungry. But if excessive fat is accumulated – particularly in the abdominal and hip area – the fat behaves like an organ and sends inflammatory biochemicals. These inflammatory mediators cause low grade systemic inflammation in “fat-obese” people even though weight is normal according to the BMI!

Weight-reduction and fat-reduction is not the same

Diets where the food intake is not combined with movement may lead to weight loss – but for how long? And what about weight in relation to fat versus weight versus fluid loss (or gain)? Normally, this is not taken into account in diets or treatments, where weight is controlled by the scale.

It is right that fat grows faster than we think if we eat more calories (energy). But this basic principle of weight management is not always the cause of overweight. Fat gain may have other causes, such as Hyperthyroidism, food intolerance, organ disorders, birth control pill, drugs, lack of essential fatty acids, psychological causes, blood sugar imbalance, etc.

The key principle for “right ideal weight” must therefore always be to reach the ideal body composition. Particularly affected are those who “have tried every diet and still cannot lose weight” or lose weight and then gain it back again (jo-jo effect). To assume that victims are doomed to being fat is too simplistic and often wrong.

Immune reactions to food components (chemical and biological) by a classical allergic reaction or food intolerance/chemical sensitivity may cause weight gain. An immediate allergic reaction may lead to accumulating fluid, e.g. swelling of the hands, the hands/ankles and face. The intolerance reaction triggered by a food may occur delayed. It may lead to resistance of the cells to produce the hormone insulin, which affects severely how fat will be accumulated.

The ALCAT program provides an excellent basis for a sustainable weight loss and weight management. The program enables a diet that prevents the unwanted cellular defense responses to the food particles.

It’s not about dieting, but about the profound changes in diet and the adaption to personal lifestyle!

Several studies of the ALCAT Test ™ show characteristic weight loss going along with the ALCAT program. A study performed with 27 obese patients shows an average weight loss (see below) from 91.37 ± 10.56 to 74.6 ± 6.76 kg after complying to the ALCAT Test results and rotational diet for 12 weeks (Medical Center & Research Labs in Dubai).

It is believed that fat cells are broken down due to the absence of inflammatory signals that sustain a buffer function in the “inflamed body”.

It is also believed that the ALCAT program optimizes detoxification. The immune system is less stressed and may therefore better eliminate toxins and metabolize waste. This may also result in an optimized function of diverting organs such as liver, kidney, skin and mucous membranes.

Example II, Metabolic PLUS protocol (250/200/150 agents)

This test option can be highly recommended for skin problems, metabolism, weight management and respiratory problems:

  • 200/150/100 ALCAT basis food test (or vegetarian option)
  • 50 Chem:20 preservatives/colorings, 10 environmental chemicals, 20 pharmaceutica substances
  • 20 Myk:20 molds

Effectiveness and validation of the ALCAT Test ™ (selection)

Beginning in 1988 and carrying through to the present several clinical studies have been performed demonstrating the effectiveness of the ALCAT Test. Also *double-blind studies infodouble-blind studiesTo obtain an unbiased outcome the study must be carried out in double blind fashion wherein neither the doctor (investigator) nor test subject knows whether the food they are re-introducing has been indicated by the blood test as being either positive or negative. The test results are evaluated to see if they correlate with this, the, “gold standard” - a double blind oral challenge. This is a rigorous and time consuming protocol that yields an objective evaluation of both the sensitivity and the specificity of the test.
A valid test for food intolerance must measure the direct effect of food substances on precisely those cells of the immune system which are responsible for the biological effector function (chronic inflammation). If the test results are valid there should be in a concordance with symptoms (e.g., gastrointestinal complaints), and be demonstrable by double blind oral exposure.
for evaluation of the accuracy of a blood test for food intolerance were carried out to see how well the test results correlate with actually eating the food.

Why is that important?

This is important because you want the test to correctly identify reaction provoking substances; but, you also do not want the test to show false positives. The first parameter is called, “sensitivity”. The second is called, “specificity”. A false positive would cause you to needlessly eliminate a safe food. Why go through the trouble and deprivation?

Scientists have shown that in patients with irritable bowel syndrome, atopic eczema, allergic rhinitis or migraine the ALCAT Test™ can detect those foods that cause the above symptoms. The ALCAT Test™ has shown an impressive consistency in the double-blind study of 83.4% for foods. With standardized non biological substances, the accuracy is as high as 92%.

Gastrointestinal, skin & weight loss

1. In a randomized controlled weight loss trial of the Baylor Medical College, USA in 1996, the results showed that the 98% (49 out of 50) of the subjects who followed the ALCAT protocol experienced improvement for weight reduction and/or body composition. The control group showed only modest success of these parameters, and these results were statistically significant. (Kaats GR. Et al, 1996).

2. The effect of the ALCAT Test™ diet for food intolerance in patients with obesity (Akmal M. et al, 2009): The diet based on the ALCAT Test™ resulted in significant weight reduction, percentage of body fat and body mass index. During the 12 week ALCAT diet also other symptoms, such as physical performance, bloating, digestive problems, and headaches, improved.

Important notes - what does ALCAT not test for?

There is a clear distinction between the ALCAT test and other methods. Nevertheless, it is sometimes confusing.

Note: The ALCAT Test™ is not a food allergy test (Type I (IgE)! Allergy tests are measuring reactions of the specific immune system while the ALCAT TEST ™ captures predominantly cellular responses of the innate immune system.

  • The ALCAT Test™ is not a provocation test to determine a fructose intolerance, histamine intolerance or lactose intolerance.
  • It would be incorrect to confuse the ALCAT Test ™ with the cytotoxic test, a microscopic examination of white blood cells.
  • The ALCAT Test™ is not a test method to determine enzymatic defects, per se
  • The ALCAT TEST™ is not kinesiology or a hair analysis to determine food intolerance.

The ALCAT test is a validated method for identification of foods and other substances that trigger inflammation.
